In a secluded spot in the South Tyrol, the Hotel Leitlhof, a holiday destination with eco-sustainable airs, breathes slow. In summer, the sky is blue, the green meadows … In winter, the stage is covered in white, the fireplaces are lit, silence invites to rest.

The Leitlhof hotel is once again nominated as one of the 12 best green hotels in Europe within the World Travel Awards 2017, which will be presented on 9 September. Specifically, competes in the category Leading Green Hotel.

We see a great potential for tourism in the green region of South Tyrol. Due the current security situation, many guests decide to spend their holidays in smaller and less removed vacation destinations. South Tyrol benefits from this fact very much. Hotels, as well as other vacation providers, redefine their USP’s and go more and more individually to their guests’ needs– they say.

We have to appreciate our habitat and also inspire our guests to do the same.We invite all people to connect with the resources that are available to us. We can invite everyone to deal careful with the resources that are at our disposal. There is no doubt, there is no better therapy than the colors, smells and tastes that Mother Nature gives us.

From winter to summer, always a paradise

In summer, the idyllic and sunny location of the Leitlhof Hotel and its stress-free atmosphere invites us to take a break: Relax in the spa oasis, stay in the tastefully furnished rooms, be delighted by the wonderful views over the Dolomite Alps’ summits… A well-developed hiking and cycling network runs through all of Hochpustertal.

In winter, the cosy atmosphere at the hotel invites us to cuddly days at the hotel during the cold season – the enchanting, surrounding mountain world offers a wide range of leisure activities: Skiing on the Haunold – the local mountain – and many other ski regions in the nearby vicinity.

Also we can enjoy the mountains of the Sextner Dolomite Alps with other winter sports activities, off-piste, as well: tobogganing, cross-country skiing, ice skating or a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride…, all in the Hochpustertal natural environment.

A place for eco-sustainable tourism

At Leitlhof, they empower eco-sustainable tourism. The pool on the outside, which caused 25,000 euros of heating costs in the first winter season 2011, was decisive for the Energy Revolution. Beyond this financial aspect, we have taken a path to the climatic neutral and energy-efficient hotel. A process that is now actively involved in planning and further development.

Now, thanks to the the wood-fired power plant of the hotel, they have become one of the few energy-efficient hotels in the world. The CO2 footprint is recorded annually in cooperation with Climate Partner. Since 2012, we have been able to reduce CO2 emissions due many initiatives from 85,5 kg to 12,3 kg per guest and night.

Most of the gastronomic offer served at the hotel comes from the Mühlhof farm, where sheep are feed with organic products.

Another step was the installation of two charging stations for electric vehicles. Our values are unique in the tourism sector. By compensation payment of the remaining CO2 we allow our guests a climate neutral holiday. We also support the environmentally friendly arriving by train. During the stay, our guests can leave the car in the underground car park and our free shuttle takes them to the village, the ski slopes or to the end of their hiking tour. We will continue to focus on waste prevention in the future.

The managers of the Hotel Leitlhof not only make culture with their clients, they also sensitize their employees to the topic of environmental protection. If we want to continue to inspire guests for our Drei Zinnen holiday region, we must protect our landscape from environmental pollution and destruction.

Herbal liqueurs and organic sheep-farming: the Mühlhof

The fresh air is tangled in my hair as we walk towards the Mühlhof, the hotel farm. It is a short walk from the Leitlhof. For some years now, they have specialised mainly in 100% natural and organic sheep-farming – all lamb at the Leitlhof is produced at the hotel’s own farm. Most of the vegetables and herbs that we use also come from the Mühlhof.

Jams, liqueurs, cheeses, honey and much more are produced at the Leitlhof in San Candido. If you’re in the area, you should certainly try the herbal liqueurs and excellent elderberry liqueur. These great souvenirs are available for purchase at any time in the hotel shop.
