My Boo… bamboo in motion

You climb the bike. It feels good. What would happen if your bicycle was made of bamboo? The answer delivers my Boo – a social start-up from Kiel in Northern Germany. Once to Ghana and back to Germany.

In big metropolises such as London, Barcelona Paris or Berlin, the bicycle is the most ecological and economical way of transport. But the two founders, Maximilian Schay and Jonas Stolzke, have thought of a new dimension.

The idea to sell socially and ecologically sustainable bamboo bikes worked out. The raw material bamboo seems to be tailor made to use as a bicycle frame for bikes.

Bamboo bikes

Bamboo is one of the most suitable materials when it comes to building bike-frames: it is durable and shock- absorbing like steel, but light as aluminium at the same time. This way, it combines the benefits of both into one frame-material. And last but definitely not least: it is one of the fastest growing renewable raw materials and absorbes a high amount of carbon dioxide while growing – making it highly ecological sustainable and environment friendly.

Maximilian Schay and Jonas Stolzke, have thought of a new dimension: The idea to sell socially and ecologically sustainable bamboo bikes

The bike itself is produced in Ghana and thus provides around 30 Ghanaians a permanent workplace with fair wages and perspective. Further more the brand teamed up with „The Yonso Project“ a social NGO in Ghana that is focussed on the high unemployement in Ghana and fights for education and equal opportunities in their region.

This unique project is completed by the uniqueness of the bike itself. None of the bikes look alike. One of a kind that creates perspectives through the purchase and flatters the environment through its use. Lets go biking.
