Dinners with Slow Fashion at MoMu

The exhibition Rik Wouters & the Private Utopia not only focuses on the intimate scenes of painter Rik Wouters and his wife Nel, but also on contemporary designers who in their own personal way create ‘slow fashion’.

The pursuit of the ‘good life’, love for nature, utopic ideals and a keen eye for colour and materials characterise the work of the artists and designers featured in the exhibition, such as – of course – Rik Wouters, James Ensor, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Dries Van Noten, Honest By, Jan-Jan Van Essche, Bless and Christian Wijnants.

This exhibition leaves you with an explosion of visual impressions. Artists’ workplaces, creations, philosophy and way of life are often interwoven.

This fall, MoMu and Het Bos join forces to invite visitors to the private utopia of these designers in an engaging sensory experience . Het Bos, in collaboration with Otark, the crew behind the fantastic Kino-dinners and delicious brunches in Antwerp, will host a series of intimate and artistic dinners.

Jan-Jan Van Essche

Jan-Jan Van Essche invites Joachim Badenhorst (clarinet/saxofoon) and Tsubasa Hori (taiko/koto) for an intimate musical collaboration in a setting created by the designer himself, accompanied by a Japanese inspired dinner by Otark.

The work of Jan-Jan Van Essche, who produces only one main collection a year, alongside different side projects, is characterised by the Japanese philosophy of Yukkuri, or a sense of contentment and taking it easy

According to Van Essche’s philosophy, the intricate construction of the clothes makes them almost invisible: the seams and other redundant elements are omitted, turning the clothing into the wearer’s second skin. The smooth way in which the garments move around the body and his unique use of materials and colours form the perfect symbiosis of Western and Oriental traditions, resulting in absolute freedom for the wearer.

The appointment is on the 19th of November, at 19:00.

Bruno Pieters, the mastermind behind the 100% transparent, ethic and sustainable fashion Honest By, will present Bed Peace, the documentary by John Lennon and Yoko Ono about their peace actions, the so-called ‘bed-ins’ in 1969. Yoko Ono and John Lennon didn’t leave their bed for days in their protest against world violence. These actions inspired the Make love, Not war philosophy of their generation and of many peace activists to come. Today, Yoko Ono states that she hopes the documentary will remain relevant: Remember, War is Over if we want it.

The same do no harm philosophy lies at the core of Honest By: the production of his completely vegan clothing doesn’t harm humans, animals or nature. Bruno Pieters invites his guests to a colourful, musical vegan dinner by Otark, with references to John and Yoko.

The appointment is on the 25th of November, at 19:00.

Honest By, the 100% transparent, ethic and sustainable fashion label, will present Bed Peace, the documentary by John Lennon and Yoko Ono about their peace actions, the so-called bed-ins in 1969.

Bless

When they arrived on the scene in 1997, design duo Bless promised to never become part of the fashion world. Rather than just clothing or accessories, they created an ambience, a perspective and a way of life: what they do stems directly from their daily lives. Their Bless products, incognito but simultaneously very present during the dinner, blend expectations and functions; they appear to be one thing but transform into something entirely different. Their solutions for the daily life are handmade and humorous and play with the notion of good versus bad taste.

When it comes to their dinner, Bless wants to go back to the absolute basics of nourishment: in a time of #foodporn and foodie obsessions, they strip their menu and appetite down to the bare necessities. Come and let yourself be surprised by the purest flavours and the Bless world! This appointment is on the 2nd of December, at 19:00.

Each dinner have a price of 26 euros and will be held in Het Bos, Ankerrui 5-7, Antwerp.
