Bora Aksu Show | London Fashion Week AW2022/23

Bora Aksu is the sustainable fashion designer to watch now. Our contributor, the photographer Zuzu Valla jumped into the backstage of his last show during London Fashion Week to shoot the collection. Within the confines of the 19th-century church in Pimlico, Bora Aksu showed his latest ideas of whimsical tulle and taffeta confections. Have a look!

London-based, Turkish-born designer Bora Aksu always invokes romanticism and escapism in his collections. His dreamy sense of extravagance and tradition takes reference from the blossoming period that came after the French Revolution—or any other tumultuous context in history, think of the Spanish flue for instance. For his Autumn Winter 2022/23 Ready-to-Wear Collection, Bora Aksu pays homage to the writer, poet, and historian Christine de Pizan, a 14th-century Italian noblewoman who served at the court of King Charles VI of France, and whose texts are recognized as some of the earliest feminist writings in history. It provided a perfect jumping-off point for Aksu’s frothy brand of romanticism, as well as the basis for a steelier subtext to the collection, rooted in tailoring details and a gentle touch of grunge.

In the past years, Bora Aksu has been partnered up with different projects to support social and environmental causes.
