Spring Summer 2021 Trends | Upcycling

Welcome to our new section: Trends of the SS21. Here you can come and check what are the latest sustainable Fashion Trends, so you can be fashionable while still being responsable and caring for the planet.

Undoubtedly, upcycling is the biggest trend of this Spring Summer season. We have seen that many designers and fashion houses have been implementing this technique in their SS21 runway show. Designers have used materials from previous collections, and also have brought reworked bags from the past, like Coach's 1970's bag. The pandemic set a reset button in the fashion industry, forcing designers to be more creative and more crafty at the time of thinking and planning their next steps. Let’s see what this season's Trends is about!

We were surprised to see this coat made out of "shoelace fur" that was upcycled by Balenciaga. In their SS21 collection, 93.5% of the plain materials were either certified sustainable or upcycled; and 100% of the print bases had sustainable certifications.

All the patchwork outwear from Marni's SS21 collection were created from existing clothing.

While some of the big names in Fashion decided to repurpose old fabrics into upcycled new styles for this Spring Summer 2021 season, we do not want to forget to mention all the designers that have made their name by upcycling. JW Anderson, Bethany Williams and Gabriela Hearst presented upcycled materials in their collections too.

Miu Miu, on the other hand announced the launching of a new Upcycled collection: an exclusive capsule of 80 one-off dresses, refashioned from antiques pieces that have been sourced from vintages stores and markets all around the world.
