INTRODUCING THE ‘ANIMAL HOUSE’ COLLECTION
This collection is a vibrant tapestry-inspired selection of Alix Pietrafesa’s artistic inspirations and cherished childhood memories. Winters of her youth spent skiing in Idaho are revisited by embracing the enchanting animals that adorned her winter wardrobe. Simultaneously the vivid colour palette of the 70s and 80s vintage ski attire is drawn from. The alpaca emerges as the collection’s centrepiece, embodying community spirit and resilience, reflecting Alix of Bohemia’s core values.
The collection is also inspired by American Folk Art’s rich tapestry, where animals reign as storytelling symbols. Alix’s appreciation of the narrative depth of American Folk Art is reflected in the fusion of rustic textures and refined elements. Familial artistry is also championed by the bespoke ceramic buttons handcrafted by Alix’s mother, Daphnè Verley. Bold, graphic motifs evoke the simplicity of early American quilts, weaving a narrative of childhood innocence and wonder. In addition to the alpaca, one can find whimsical depictions of rabbits, birds and snakes, each carrying historical significance. A light in New York City’s fashion scene, Alix Pietrafesa has transformed her unique artistic journey into a commitment to impeccable craftsmanship. Originating from upstate New York, Alix’s creative roots are deeply embedded in her bohemian upbringing and culturally rich European family. Her vision is heavily influenced by the stories and events of her life. These include her university years in the historic streets of Scotland, the captivating figures of the avant-garde Parisian Bohemians, psychedelic elements, and 70s rock style.
Establishing Alix of Bohemia in the vintage-rich Portobello Road, unearthed her creative voice, blending evocative stories with vintage treasures, textiles, and handcrafted designs. Once back in New York, she created over 2500 bespoke pieces, including her iconic “hero” jackets, now found in the wardrobes of private collectors and premier retailers like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
Alix’s husband and business partner, Sebastian Kaufman, has also shaped the brand’s narrative.
