Sustainable Fashion Story | Chanté for Change | South Africa

The colors of South Africa,
the shades of history,
the lights of strength,
the dream of being young.

What does luxury mean? What does change mean?
When teenagers can’t finish school,
when daughters have to become mothers...

A powerful woman is every woman.
Is every age.
Is every body.

Wearing strength is luxury.
Being acknowledged is change.
Having possibilities is luxury.
To own your story means change.
To make the change happen is luxury.

Chanté (18) is the powerful young woman that we follow through this fashion story. Guided by a team of professional enthusiasts for sustainable fashion that stand up for South African youth. The team is supported by fashion designers from Cape Town and Hamburg who are more than happy to support the initiative. Moving from her underprivileged background Chanté becomes a model of an international magazine and finds her own hidden strength and confidence.

She was born in a tiny South African village near the town Grabouw and left school at the young age of 16 when she fell pregnant with her daughter Stephanie. Together with her daughter, mother and siblings she lives in humble conditions, without proper sanitation, electricity and water supply.

Chanté’s desire of changing their conditions is as big as her feeling of powerlessness. During the photo shoot she gets motivated and manages to focus on her inner strength, her dreams and hope for the future. She feels unique and full of self-confidence. Through Chante's experience on set the team feels very inspired and encouraged moving forward with their projects to empower youngsters.
