Eco-sustainability, keyword of PRE-FABulous

Eco-sustainability, design, comfort and technology: Andrea Castrignano revolutionises the concept of the prefabricated house with his new contemporary interpretation: PRE-FABulous, an unique installation included in the wide range of events offered at Milan Design Week, last April.

Important fundamental concepts such as respect for the environment and energy saving were given an aesthetic twist with finely tailored details that are typical of Andrea Castrignano’s style.

A new living dimension, with eco-sustainability

With PRE-FABulous, Andrea Castrignano sets up a new living dimension that combines the highest level of comfort with respect for our Planet.

The main feature of the venue set-up is a prefabricated house that the interior designer interprets with his own notion of style that includes ecological aspects, home-technology and design. The result is an innovative project that goes far beyond the basic concept of prefabricated, since he enhances its aspects of resilience, low environmental impact, the opportunity to customise it and tailor-made design.

The Project

For this project, the partner is Legno Camuna, a leading Italian company in the industry that uses a special eco-friendly building technique involving solid wood and X-Lam cross-laminated fibreboard panels, with special glass wool insulation on the inside.

Then, towards the outside, a unique ventilated cladding system in fibreboard is used that efficiently controls humidity and temperatures while maintaining comfortable values in all seasons and providing significant saving in energy.

The prefabricated house is not only eco-friendly but also elastic and flexible in the event of earthquakes. Although light, it is resilient and does not take a long time to build.

The project, developed over a large surface area of over 200 square metres, is for a house of about 100 square metres surrounded by an outdoor terrace of 12 square metres and 95 square metres of garden.

The Rooms

For the living space, Andrea Castrignano has chosen natural materials and eco-friendly finishes combined with the most innovative solutions in terms of technology and energy, from music diffusion in the various rooms of the house to motor-driven curtains/awnings (internal and external), a cutting-edge hot/cold thermal conditioning system, and a water saving system thanks to its special sanitary fixtures.

Far from the metropolitan hustle and bustle, PRE-FABulous welcomes visitors taking them into a lush garden with, above, an unexpected sky at sunset that embraces everything with its twilight, offering a sensation of being outdoors. Immersed in nature, the house is surrounded by a large terrace and an elegant English-style lawn.

Once again, colour is a distinctive feature of this new project created by Andrea Castrignano: the ever-present colour palette, available in natural and dusty earthy shades, provides a backdrop to outdoor areas.

The interior design, always tailor-made, gets its inspiration from the refined and decorative stylistic mood of the Hamptons, which Andrea Castrignano gives a more sober contemporary look.

Every detail of PRE-FABulous is connected with nature: from the choice of materials (wood, marble and natural stone) to the soft earthy colours of furniture and furnishing accessories.

The house has a spacious living area with an open kitchen, made unique by customised pantographed doors, a pantry and dining area (60sq.m). It also features a comfortable night area with a main bedroom, separated from the walk-in wardrobe by a printed glass partition, an en-suite bathroom (35sq.m) with spectacular marble cladding laid with its visible open grain, taps and fittings with gold and copper finishes, and a cavity sliding door for the shower with a drainage column incorporated in the sub-frame.

Every detail of PRE-FABulous is connected with nature: from the choice of materials (wood, marble and natural stone) to the soft earthy colours of furniture and furnishing accessories, and to the finishes (entirely natural oil-based or clay-based varnishes for the walls) and decorative details, such as the wood panelling made specifically for this project, with a plant pattern that recalls the “jungle” wallpaper used to create the garden.

The furniture reveals Andrea Castrignano’s penchant for design, for tailor-made features and the pursuit of contemporary aesthetic appeal. This is clearly evident in his choices such as the iron frame of the dining table with a marble top, specifically designed for this project, the bathroom furniture in curved wood, the refined details on furniture units and drawers with a 45° edge, and the very comfortable bed with a padded and quilted headboard.

The furnishing accessories have been carefully chosen for their high quality and nuances of colour. The carpets are hand-woven and the curtains and bed linen perfectly blend in with the context and with the works of art on the walls.

The interior blends with the external space thanks to large French windows, whereas the spacious terrace becomes an extension of the house with its spaces ideally furnished for relaxing and socialising, just like the space designed for welcoming guests, which is separated by a fully automated retractable awning. Other impressive features include the ceiling-mounted covering and the porcelain stoneware cladding used on the outside of the house with a brown brick effect (designed by Andrea Castrignano), which is perfectly in line with the metropolitan context.

The outdoor area is complemented with two functional features: a wood-burning barbecue and a shed for storing power tools for gardening and DIY jobs.

Home Technology

In addition to its eco-friendly inspiration – from energy saving to the eco-sustainability of the building and the materials used – the mood of PRE-FABulous particularly focuses on comfort and technology, demonstrating that eco-friendliness and state-of-the-art technology can go hand-in-hand when they are intended to provide collective and individual wellbeing and are wisely used.

Hence, the prefabricated house in the style of Andrea Castrignano is fitted with all the latest home automation systems, from music diffusion to security systems, thermal conditioning systems and cutting-edge household appliances.
