Moisturizing is important for the general care and health of the skin, helping to reduce dryness, blemishes and acne. Experts suggest the most important times to moisturize are after showering, as the warm water can strip the skin of its natural oils, and after cleansing or exfoliating the face. Moisturizing after cleansing or exfoliating can help the product sink into the skin better, making the ingredients more effective at targeting dry areas.

MOISTURISING DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES

There is a common misconception that unlike dry skin, oily skin doesn't need to be moisturized. However, it is recommended that moisturizer become a part of every daily skin care routine as it helps to regulate oil production and keep the skin hydrated.

Although all skin types should be moisturized to ensure healthy skin, it is important to choose the correct product for your skin type as not every product will work for every person. That's why Biotherm has a range of products carefully created to suit all needs.  For this reason, Biotherm offers a range of products that are carefully adapted to different needs. Water based moisturizers are suggested for oily skin and ingredients such as Salicylic acid, which unclogs pores helping moisture to sink into the skin, and Retinol, which reduces the overproduction of Sebum, are effective for this skin type. In contrast, ingredients that are good for dry skin include Ceramides, which prevent moisture from passing the skin barrier, and Hydraulic acid, which draws water into the skin. It is also suggested that if you have dryer skin, a thicker moisturizer will be more effective in holding in the moisture. One tip that is common to moisturizing all skin types however is to avoid products with fragrance or alcohol in them as this can irritate the skin.

NATURAL FORMS OF MOISTURISING

There are steps that can be taken alongside to help naturally enhance the moisture of the skin. Keeping hydrated by drinking plenty of water or using a humidifier are two ways to give your skin moisture during the day when you're not using products. There are also foods that can be eaten to improve the moisture of the skin. Foods high in Biotin, such as spinach and bananas, and foods which include zinc, such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds, can all help with the hydration of the skin. Many orange fruits and vegetables are also good for preventing dry skin by providing the body with antioxidants. Some things to avoid when experiencing dry skin are alcohol and caffeine as they drain moisture from the body.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING BLUE BEAUTY MOISTURIZING PRODUCTS

Blue Beauty is a term coined by Jeanne Jarot and refers to the new image of green beauty. It refers to safe, sustainably sourced ingredients that are ocean-safe, often packaged in reused, recyclable or refillable packaging. By choosing moisturizers with a Blue Beauty commitment, you are not only able to keep your skin healthy but are also able to cause minimal harm to the planet.

Biotherm is one brand which has made several initiatives to become more sustainable with their commitment to Blue Beauty. Firstly. Biotherm works in partnership with Water Lovers, an organization that works towards marine protection, to ensure the ingredients used in their products are ocean friendly and safe to aquatic life. By 2025, the brand hopes to become more sustainable by becoming 100% carbon neutral and making 100% of their plastic packaging at least one of four things: refillable, rechargeable, recyclable or biodegradable.

What makes Biotherm unique is their use of active aquatic ingredients such as Thermal Plankton Life Plankton™, a hydrating ingredient which is found in all of their products. The Life Plankton™ used by Biotherm has benefits such as strengthening the skin barrier and stimulating cell renewal. It is also an environmentally friendly ingredient as they are 100% natural, biodegradable and renewable.

Biotherm also has their own line specifically for moisturizing: Aquasource. The line includes their Hyalu plump gel, which not only makes use of extracts of their Life Plankton™ but also Hyaluronic acid, providing extra moisturizing qualities.  The product is made to provide up to 48 hour moisture with a formula that is unharmful to aquatic life, making it a great eco-friendly moisturizer for those with dry or combination skin. The Aquasource line is also where you’ll find their Total Eye Revitalizer Gel, which is made to cool the skin, helping to de-puff under eye bags. It also targets dark circles and dehydrated lines by adding extra moisture into the skin. The gentleness of the product makes it perfect for those with sensitive skin types.

Biotherm also provides other alternative moisturizing products outside of their Aquasource line. Their After Sun Body Cream helps to rehydrate skin after sun exposure and their Lait Corporel body moisturizer helps to reduce flakiness and improve elasticity through the use of nourishing oils. They also have a number of products which make use of Retinol such as their Blue Pro-Retinol multi correct cream which helps to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
