BEDROOM
When it comes to the placing of one’s bed in the bedroom, feng shui dictates that the bed must be positioned where the homeowner would feel most secure. The bed must not be underneath windows nor in direct line with the door. Rather the bed must be placed at a diagonal to the door. If you’re directly in line with the door, you could subconsciously feel like you’re in harm’s way. The same idea applies to the windows.
To provide a sense of stability, its best to have the headboard against a wall, with open spaces on ither side which provides symmetry and stability.
The colour scheme of the bedroom might also aid in creating a feeling of security and relaxation. The best bedroom colours are soothing, healing tones like blues and greens, earthy tones and soft yellows.
LIVING ROOM
Placing the back of your sofa against a window is very problematic according to Feng Shui. Not only does this interfere with the flow of energy in and out of the home. Rather, it is best to have your couch in view of the window. It is even recommended that you reflect any particularly pleasant view back into your living room by placing a mirror on the wall opposite the window. Or even, decorate the walls with images of Bountiful landscapes and depictions nature that will serve to best inspire the type of energy you seek for your living room space
To prevent this restless energy from draining anyone in your living room, make sure that every seat in the room can easily see the front door. This automatically puts everyone more at ease.
And most importantly, clutter is the enemy of Feng Shui because it interrupts flow. It’s disjointed and disrupts positive energy in a home. The Decluttering process is freeing and opens up more space in your living room.
KITCHEN
The rules of Feng shui for the kitchen generally require you to organise your kitchen while taking into consideration the equipment that deals with different elements like water and fire. Take the stove for an example, this is an equipment dealing with fire and heat. Your stove should also be in a commanding position. This means that you’re able to see the main entryway while cooking, signifying that you’re in control of anything entering and exiting the room. It should also, not be side by side with the sink which belongs to the water element as this throws off the balance of the room.
If you want a whole feng shui makeover for your kitchen, swap your cabinet doors for glass ones — or ditch the doors altogether. This not only visually opens your kitchen, but it also welcomes the opportunity for positive chi to flow through.
BATHROOM
Bathroom mirrors an essential tool to ensure that the chi energy flows freely. In a bathroom, the wastewater features can easily activate negative chi. The best way to counter this is to hang a full-length mirror on the inside of the bathroom door. However, one major caveat is that the mirror should not reflect the toilet. Even the mirror you hang on the wall should not reflect the toilet.
Plants can do wonders for the purification and renewal of a bathroom. Plants will purify the air. Also, they’ll keep your bathroom fresh. Bring in enough plants to complement the decor but ensure they are not too plentiful. Some plant recommendations are the Aloe Vera, and Jade Plant.
