Ixora Activewear | Where Conscious Design Meets the Art of Movement

Born on the Italian Riviera, IXORA Activewear brings together sophisticated design, considered materials and a philosophy of wellbeing that goes beyond exercise. Founded by a woman who believes that looking beautiful and making responsible choices should never be mutually exclusive, the brand invites us to rediscover movement as a moment of freedom, confidence and connection with ourselves.

There is a particular kind of luxury in finding time for yourself. An early morning yoga class, a quiet walk by the sea, an hour away from the constant demands of everyday life. Moments when the world becomes a little quieter and we can finally listen to our own bodies.

For many women, these moments are increasingly precious. Between professional ambitions, family responsibilities and the expectation of always being available, taking care of ourselves can feel like another task on an already endless list.

IXORA Activewear was created with a different perspective. What if the clothes we choose for movement could make these moments more enjoyable? What if performance, femininity and environmental responsibility could coexist without compromising on design?

Founded in Sanremo, on the Italian Riviera, IXORA responds to these questions with a collection of refined activewear designed to accompany women through movement and everyday life. Its distinctive aesthetic, carefully selected fabrics and commitment to responsible production reflect a belief that true wellbeing begins with the choices we make for ourselves.

“Today, for me, success means creating something I’m genuinely proud of, without sacrificing my health, my relationships or my values along the way.”

WHY IXORA ACTIVEWEAR

The activewear market has grown into a universe of technical fabrics, performance promises and constantly changing trends. Yet finding pieces that combine an elevated aesthetic with thoughtful production remains a challenge.

For IXORA’s founder and CEO Marina Orhei, this contradiction became the starting point for creating her own brand: “Fitness, movement and a healthy lifestyle have always been part of my life, and over the years I kept noticing the same gap. Sustainable activewear often lacked refined design, while the most beautifully designed pieces rarely considered their impact on the planet.”

She wanted to create something that would appeal to women who appreciate fashion as much as functionality, but who also care about the origins and longevity of their clothes. “I didn’t want to choose between the two, and I didn’t believe other women should have to.” The result is a brand that approaches activewear through the language of contemporary luxury. Rather than treating sportswear as something purely functional, IXORA considers how a garment looks, feels and becomes part of a woman’s personal wardrobe.

It is an approach that resonates with a growing desire to own fewer, more versatile pieces. Clothes that we genuinely enjoy wearing, that maintain their appeal beyond a single season and that make us feel confident without demanding attention.

“Fitness, movement and a healthy lifestyle have always been part of my life, and over the years I kept noticing the same gap. Sustainable activewear often lacked refined design, while the most beautifully designed pieces rarely considered their impact on the planet.”

THE BEAUTY OF FEELING GOOD IN YOUR OWN BODY

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of IXORA is its understanding of the woman behind the clothes. She may be ambitious, creative, a mother, an entrepreneur or simply someone navigating the many expectations of modern life. What connects these women is not a particular lifestyle or body type, but the desire to find moments that belong entirely to them.

For the founder, this woman is deeply familiar. “When your days belong to work, family and your phone, a yoga class or a walk by the sea can be the only hour that’s yours. I want the clothes to disappear in that moment. No pinching, no adjusting, nothing to think about. Just support, softness and the feeling that you’ve chosen something good for yourself.” – says Marina Orhei.

This philosophy influences the way she thinks about every garment. Comfort should not require constant adjustment. Support should feel natural. And design should enhance the experience of movement rather than distract from it.

There is something quietly powerful about this idea. Activewear is often marketed through transformation, encouraging women to become stronger, fitter or somehow better versions of themselves. IXORA offers a gentler interpretation of wellbeing, one that begins with feeling comfortable and confident in the body we already inhabit.

The clothes become companions rather than statements of achievement. Pieces designed for the yoga studio, a Pilates session or those everyday moments when ease and elegance feel equally important.

“High-performance stretch fabrics are still largely synthetic. My answer, for now, is to use recycled fibres instead of virgin ones and to choose dense, high-quality fabrics that are designed to shed less. Wearing and reusing what we already own is just as important, which is why we opt for the best-quality textiles, made to keep their shape, colour and performance for years.”

A DIFFERENT EXPRESSION OF ACTIVEWEAR

What immediately distinguishes IXORA is its aesthetic identity. At a time when sportswear often follows similar visual codes, the brand proposes a more considered relationship between fashion and movement. Its refined approach to silhouette, material and detail gives activewear a place within a contemporary wardrobe rather than limiting it to the gym.

The appeal lies in this balance. Pieces that feel feminine without sacrificing functionality, expressive without being excessive and sophisticated without losing the comfort that makes activewear so desirable.

For women who have developed a personal sense of style, this distinction matters. Choosing sportswear no longer needs to mean stepping away from the aesthetic they enjoy in the rest of their lives.

IXORA’s philosophy is also rooted in the idea of longevity. A beautifully designed garment should remain desirable long after the excitement of a new purchase has faded.

In this sense, the brand’s approach to design and responsible consumption becomes closely connected. When we love what we own, we have another reason to care for it, wear it repeatedly and keep it for longer.

THE MATERIALS BEHIND THE MOVEMENT

Behind IXORA’s refined appearance lies a more complex question: how can activewear offer the stretch, support and durability women expect while reducing its dependence on virgin fossil-based materials? The answer is not simple. Conventional performance clothing relies heavily on synthetic fibres, and even recycled alternatives can release microplastics during use and washing.

Rather than presenting recycled fabrics as a perfect environmental solution, IXORA acknowledges the limitations of the industry and focuses on improvements it can make today. Its leggings and sports bras use recycled polyamide and elastane fabrics sourced from established Italian textile mills, including materials made with Econyl®, regenerated nylon produced from existing waste materials. The founder’s selection process begins with the purpose of each garment: “I choose by function first: what the garment needs to do, and then the lowest-impact material that can do it beautifully.”

Quality and longevity are central to this decision. IXORA prioritises fabrics selected to maintain their shape, colour and performance through repeated wear, encouraging customers to invest in pieces they can enjoy over time. Nevertheless, recycled nylon does not eliminate microplastic pollution, and elastane remains a significant challenge for circular fashion: “The breakthrough the industry still needs is in elastane. Stretch is what makes activewear work, yet there is still no truly recyclable or bio-based version available at scale.” – says Marina Orhei.

This willingness to acknowledge what has not yet been solved gives the brand’s environmental commitments a more credible dimension. Responsible fashion is not about claiming perfection, but about making informed decisions, communicating their limitations and continuing to seek better alternatives.

“I choose by function first: what the garment needs to do, and then the lowest-impact material that can do it beautifully.”

MADE WITH CARE, FROM ITALY TO PORTUGAL

For IXORA, the story of a garment extends beyond its design and fabric composition. The people who manufacture it, the relationships established with suppliers and the transparency of the production process are equally important.

The brand sources its fabrics from two long-established Italian mills with Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification, while approximately 80% of its production takes place with a manufacturing partner in Portugal. These relationships allow the founder to maintain closer contact with the people responsible for bringing her designs to life.

But certifications alone are not enough: “I want to know how a partner treats its people, whether they’re transparent when something goes wrong, how they handle waste, and whether they’re willing to grow alongside a small brand rather than simply chase volume.” – says Marina Orhei.

Her preference for partners she can visit and communicate with directly reflects a more personal approach to business, one in which trust and shared values are as important as technical expertise.

For the woman purchasing an IXORA piece, these details offer something increasingly valuable: a clearer understanding of the decisions behind the clothes she chooses to wear.

REDEFINING SUCCESS, ON OUR OWN TERMS

There is another dimension to IXORA that extends beyond activewear itself. As a woman-founded and independently operated company, the brand reflects its creator’s personal understanding of ambition, independence and success. Building a business from the Italian Riviera has taught her that waiting for the perfect moment is rarely the answer: “You don’t need permission to begin, nor every answer before you start. You learn by doing, and you learn fast.”

But perhaps the most meaningful lesson has been reconsidering what success should look like. For generations, women have been encouraged to pursue professional achievement while simultaneously fulfilling every other expectation placed upon them. Today, a different conversation is emerging, one that makes space for personal wellbeing, meaningful relationships and the freedom to establish our own priorities: “For a long time it meant proving we could do it all. Today, for me, success means creating something I’m genuinely proud of, without sacrificing my health, my relationships or my values along the way.”

This perspective is reflected in the brand’s long-term ambitions. While IXORA does not yet operate a formal social empowerment programme, its founder hopes to create opportunities for women through future collaborations with female creatives, women-led businesses and initiatives that improve access to movement and wellbeing.

Her vision is particularly attentive to women who rarely have the time, resources or space to prioritise themselves. It is an ambition that remains to be developed, but one that reveals the values she hopes will guide the company as it grows.

Looking towards the future, IXORA imagines a world in which women no longer feel guilty about resting, caring for themselves or choosing a slower rhythm when life demands it. A world in which buying less but better becomes a natural habit, transparency is expected from brands and wellbeing is understood as an essential part of everyday life rather than an occasional indulgence.

A MORE CONSCIOUS WAY TO MOVE FORWARD

Looking towards the future, IXORA imagines a world in which women no longer feel guilty about resting, caring for themselves or choosing a slower rhythm when life demands it. A world in which buying less but better becomes a natural habit, transparency is expected from brands and wellbeing is understood as an essential part of everyday life rather than an occasional indulgence. “I hope self-care will stop being a luxury squeezed in at the end of the day and become a normal part of how we live.” – highlights Marina Orhei.

It is a beautiful aspiration, and one that gives IXORA a purpose beyond the garments themselves. Ultimately, the brand is not asking women to move faster, achieve more or become someone different. It is inviting them to enjoy movement on their own terms, to feel beautiful without compromising comfort and to consider the story behind what they wear.

When asked what she hopes a woman will feel when putting on an IXORA piece, the founder’s answer is beautifully simple: “Calm, confident, at home in her body.”

Perhaps that is the most meaningful expression of modern luxury: feeling entirely yourself, with nothing left to prove.
