Bags by Natalia Berilo
Why to buy: Natalia Berilo is a disruptive brand specialized in creating bags made for people who appreciate unique objects with soul, who recognize and value fashion as a functional artwork that accompanies us in our day to day.
Following a slow fashion philosophy, Natalia Berilo produces timeless collections in Ubrique, a Spanish town known worldwide for its craftmanship and “know-how” in high-end leather goods. To the designer, manufacturing in Ubrique is giving strength to craftsmanship, helping to preserve decades of tradition. Indeed, Ubrique is currently retaking its place in the world of luxury fashion. Each bag is made by hand following high quality standards. All models use an invisible opening system that gives them the exclusive brand kinetics.
What we love: Natalia Berilo creates unique avant-garde pieces with visual force, using geometric figures that we find in nature as inspiration. The designer tells us that, without realizing it, we live in a replica of nature: “Everything around us has its colors, its shape and its soul. Isn’t the human being a product of nature? Seen this way, it is not surprising that all art and all our creations contain it.”
The minerals, in their crystallization, show us infinite geometric shapes, and it is there, in the hexagonal crystallization of the mineral Beryl, where Natalia has found much of her inspiration. The more she investigates the minerals the more they surprise her: “I have discovered the large amount of minerals that they use to make the objects that we use daily, and that is why I have the need to capture, in a utilitarian object, the shapes they have without being processed.”

Austrian Knit Cardigans by Michaela Buerger
Why To Buy: Michaela Buerger was one of the few brands to work with the idea of #whomademyclothes and #womenempowerment years before it was a hashtag. In association with a Bosnian Collective they produce together since 2012 handmade pieces, proving that a philanthropic approach can be a healthy business. The collective seeks to give women affected by war, or have little or no income the opportunity to re-engage in their communities through knitting, and aims to protect, promote and preserve the handcrafts of female knitters. In addition, it attempts to transfer traditional skills to younger generations, as well as to create advantageous economical and psychological conditions for women of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.
In 2011, there were 15 women who were part of the organization. Since then, the organization has trained more than 200 women, and currently 150 of them are working. The collective places a great emphasis on diversity, integration and acceptance.
What we love: Michaela Buerger grew up in a small village in the south of Austria, living her childhood surrounded by many Austrian traditions and typical folklore clothing, called Tracht. Her mother knitted at home custom orders of traditional Austrian knit cardigans – pieces with a strong identity and technically very challenging over an ultra-feminine and charming style. With her new collection «Origins», she turns to her knitting heritage and designs precious traditional Tracht-inspired hand-knits. A combination of challenging knit-techniques, embroidery, and ultra-feminine shapes, that come together to form a poetic and sustainable language that can be worn throughout the year. Experimentation is also key, so at present, recycled fabrics and threads are being upcycled into luxury crochet bags.
Michaela’s stockist list include Le Bon Marche, Paris; Bergdorf Goodman, New York; Galeries Lafayette, Paris; Isetan, Tokyo; Shopbop, USA; and Tom Greyhound, Seoul.
